Abstract:

This report sets out the structure, successes and challenges of the Baronscourt Art Project, run by the charity Art in Healthcare for Baronscourt Surgery in Edinburgh between 2015 and 2016.
Based on an Occupational Therapy model as a pilot arts-based social prescribing service for Art in Healthcare, the project engaged patients of the surgery in participatory art workshops aiming to improve their health and wellbeing while producing artworks for the walls of the surgery. Five patients ultimately took part in the series of four workshops and one Celebration Event which, while universally considered too short a programme, still afforded significant opportunities for understanding the health benefits patients got from the project and gave an insight into the necessary structures and processes needed to maximise impact if running a similar project again.
