Abstract:
The Institute of Health Equity (IHE) have worked with the WHO to produce an evidence brief; Equity, COVID-19 and the Social Determinants of Health (SDH), which discusses the disproportionate impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on more disadvantaged population groups, with a focus on how it is widening health inequities. It should serve as a call for action to support those groups most affected, to mitigate impacts, and to take the opportunity of the pandemic to revisit how societies deal with the SDH and health equity.
The WHO are also holding a series of seminars which will cover the evidence on inequities in health exacerbated in the COVID-19 pandemic and address good practices and solutions to improve health equity through addressing the social determinants.
