Abstract:
This research project was established to examine issues facing the development of New Zealand’s cultural industries and the role of government in supporting their development and ongoing sustainability.
While the report was prepared for the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology, discussions from the start included the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, which leads the government’s involvement with the creative industries, also has an interest.
Chapter 2, entitled “The benefits of cultural activity”, provides an assessment of the balance of social, cultural and/or economic contributions (qualitative and or quantitative) of the cultural industries in New Zealand, with references to “well-being”.
