Abstract:

This report details the impact Create, a charity empowering lives, reducing isolation and enhancing wellbeing through creative arts, had during 2019/20. Create’s focus is on engaging the most marginalised participants in inspiring, sustainable arts programmes in areas where provision is poor and engagement in the arts is therefore low. They priorities work with seven participant groups: young patients; disabled children and adults; young and adult carers; school children in areas of deprivation; vulnerable older people; young and adult offenders; and marginlised children and adults.

Their aims are: to give free access to creative arts for society’s most disadvantaged; to engage participants in inspiring programmes led by professional artists in areas of deprivation; to develop creativity, learning, social skills and self-esteem; to reduce social isolation by bringing people together; to enhance wellbeing; and to create a society that is fairer, more caring and more inclusive.

Their impact in 2019/20 includes 53 projects, 861 creative arts workshops, 1,388 disadvantaged and vulnerable participants, 16,464 hours of contact, £890,397 income, 57 professional artists and 148 volunteers donated 1,132 hours. During 2019/20 Create worked with 72.3% of participants who were aged between 0-18, 40.1% of participants who were entitled to free school meals, 50.4% of participants who are Black, Asian or ethnically diverse and 46% of participants who are disabled or have special educational needs. The report provides details of how they address the needs of the people they work with.
