Abstract:
This compendium provides a summary of the work of all 18 Policy Action Teams working on the National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal. Includes a summary of the work of PAT10 on Arts and Sport. PAT10 was led by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) with the focus was on ‘best practice in using arts, sport and leisure to engage people in poor neighbourhoods, particularly those who may feel most excluded, such as disaffected young people, and people from ethnic minorities.’
PAT10 argues that ‘Participation, and the provision of services to support participation, in arts and sport, can help address neighbourhood renewal by improving communities’ ‘performance’ on the four key indicators of more jobs, less crime, better health and improved educational attainment.’ It is noted, however, that there is ‘a lack of available evaluated information about the regenerative aspects of arts and sport community development projects.’
