Abstract:
This report discusses the importance of promoting Aboriginal Health in Australia. Compared to non- Aboriginal people, Aboriginal people are more susceptible to disease and disability because of unequal access to resources. As a result, Aboriginal people are more prone to anxiety, psychological distress, chronic diseases, etc.
VicHealth suggests enforcing stronger connections between Aboriginal people and their family and community, their culture, and creating increased opportunities for education, employment, housing, and community activities to alter their actions which might alter their susceptibility to disease and disability.
Art as a means of expression is important to Aboriginal culture and in this report, VicHealth provides a list of organizations and case studies that supports Aboriginal arts. It also discusses the Victorian Aboriginal Health Promotion Framework, which states the actions for promoting health in Aboriginal populations and the intermediate outcomes and long-term benefits as a result.
